On the long-term variability of the B[e] supergiant Hen-S22
over the half-century life time of IBVS

I present a discussion of new and archived photometry of the LMC B[e] supergiant Henize-S22, covering a time base that roughly corresponds to the lifespan of IBVS.

The main conclusion of this study is that the object is slowly brightening and reddening, a typical signature of an LBV S Doradus phase. But also that significant systematic differences between all involved systems of photometric measurement hamper the interpretation of the color behaviour, and that voluminous modern data catalogues can be systematically off by 0.1 to 0.2 magnitudes in V.

This example also underlines the necessity to maintain the possibilities of publishing variable-star data - whatever the number of measurements - in an open-access peer-reviewed journal.
