The term "space climate" was introduced about twenty years ago to cover long term variations of space weather conditions. In the past two decades this young field has been coming to its own, with a dedicated symposium series and specialized scientific journals. The talk will introduce this young field, focusing on its practical importance for human space activities, the physical mechanism driving space climate variations and prediction capabilities.
