Despite the decade-long, intense studies, the exact nature of the type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) originating from the thermonuclear explosion of white dwarfs is still a mystery. Several explosion scenarios broadly reproduce the observables of these SNe but differ in detail. Constraining the distribution of the chemical elements in the SN ejecta could allow us a powerful tool to test these theories. To map the chemical and physical properties, we can scan through the optically thin region of the ejecta by modeling the SN spectra obtained at different epochs. Peculiar SNe, like the faint objects of the Iax subclass, could provide us further constraints on the explosion mechanisms.
